Sold Out on You (오늘도 매진했습니다) — Upcoming Drama Preview: A Farmer Called Quail, an Insomniac Show Host, and Miracle Mushrooms

SBS | Wednesdays & Thursdays | Premieres April 22, 2026 | 12 Episodes × 70 min | Also streaming on Netflix

A perfectionist farmer who grows miracle mushrooms for the cosmetics industry and is nicknamed “Quail” by the village elders. A home shopping host who’s so dedicated to her job she’s developed chronic insomnia. Their lives collide day and night, they bicker constantly, and obviously they’re going to fall in love.

A healing rom-com set in the countryside with bickering energy? I’m already in.

The Premise

Matthew Lee — or as the locals in Deokpung Village call him, “Mechuri” (which is Korean for “quail” because it sounds like his name, honestly that’s adorable) — is a young farmer who’s anything but simple. Yes, he works the fields. Yes, he runs errands for the village elders. Yes, he’s prickly on the outside with a soft heart underneath. But he’s also the CEO of a natural cosmetics ingredient company AND the lead researcher. Oh, and he’s the only person in the WORLD cultivating the rare white flower nuri mushroom, which is apparently a miracle ingredient in cosmetics.

So this man is a farmer, a CEO, and a scientist. Who has time for love? Not him. Until…

Dam Ye Jin rolls into Deokpung Village on a mission. She’s an ace home shopping host — the kind who’s racked up over 1 TRILLION won in cumulative sales. She handles everything from skincare to appliances and she sells out every single time. Hence the title. But her intense dedication to work has destroyed her sleep. She suffers from chronic, severe insomnia. She pours her heart into her job every day but has a massive hole in her own life.

She’s come to the village because she wants to sign a deal with Matthew’s trending cosmetics brand for her home shopping network. She’s dressed for a city boardroom, trekking through a farming village, completely out of her element. He’s not interested. She’s not giving up. Cue the bickering, the clashing, the forced proximity, and eventually — the feelings.

The production team has said this transitions from playful bickering into genuine romance as they start to understand each other’s struggles and heal each other’s wounds. His hidden burdens. Her battle with insomnia. Two people who are “always sold out” at work but emotionally running on empty.

The Cast

Ahn Hyo Seop (안효섭) as Matthew Lee / “Quail”

Known for: Business Proposal, Dr. Romantic 2 & 3, A Time Called You, Lovers of the Red Sky, Abyss, KPop Demon Hunters (voice)

I became a fan of Ahn Hyo Seop after watching Business Proposal. That drama was fun, it was charming, and he brought this easy charisma to the chaebol CEO role that made the whole thing work. But I also really liked him in Dr. Romantic — he was hurt and emotional but had this determination to come out the other end. You could feel what his character was going through and he made you root for him. A Time Called You I really enjoyed too — he showed up in that drama and proved he could do something completely different tonally.

Now. Lovers of the Red Sky. Don’t get me started. The way I HATED that drama. I finished it but I wish I didn’t. Sometimes you commit to something out of stubbornness and regret it. That was Lovers of the Red Sky for me.

And let’s not forget — this man is also the voice in KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix, the animated series. His range goes from live-action rom-com leading man to emotional medical drama to voice acting in an animation about K-pop idols fighting demons. That’s RANGE.

Chae Won Bin (채원빈) as Dam Ye Jin

Known for: Doubt (Such a Close Traitor), Who Is She, Sweet Home S2 & S3, My Lovely Boxer, Twenty-Twenty

I saw Chae Won Bin’s range after watching her in Doubt and Who Is She and I was genuinely impressed. This is a young actress — born in 2001 — who’s already showing she can handle complex, emotionally demanding roles. In Doubt she held her own opposite veteran actor Han Suk Kyu, which is no small thing. She swept the rookie awards circuit too — Best New Actress at the MBC Drama Awards, the APAN Star Awards, AND the Baeksang Arts Awards. Three rookie awards. That tells you the industry sees what I see.

Dam Ye Jin is a different energy for her — a fast-talking, confident, bulldozer of a home shopping host who doesn’t take no for an answer. The comedy potential with her and Ahn Hyo Seop bickering their way through the countryside is going to be brilliant. At the script reading, their dynamic already had people talking — natural chemistry, great eye contact, playful tension. That’s a good sign.

Kim Bum (김범) as Eric Seo

Known for: Boys Over Flowers, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, Law School, Ghost Doctor, That Winter the Wind Blows, Hidden Identity

The second male lead. He plays the warm and considerate executive director of the cosmetics company L’Étoile. He approaches Dam Ye Jin first and creates subtle tension in front of Matthew Lee — so we’ve got a love triangle brewing. Kim Bum’s been around for years and he always brings charm to his roles. The question is whether he’s the genuine romantic rival or the supportive second lead who gracefully steps aside. Either way, his presence adds stakes.

Go Doo Shim (고두심) as Song Hak Daek

Known for: The Atypical Family, Check In Hanyang

The unofficial head of Deokpung Village. She’s the veteran actress bringing warmth and comedy as the village granny who offers everyone potatoes instead of ramen. Every drama needs a Go Doo Shim character — the wise, funny elder who sees through everyone’s nonsense.

The Creative Team

The director is Ahn Jong Yeon, who did Seoul Busters. Now I’m going to be honest — I watched Seoul Busters and it wasn’t funny. I gave it a good go, watched seven episodes before I called it a day. So the director isn’t necessarily a selling point for me personally. But directing a countryside rom-com is a very different beast to an action comedy, so maybe this setting brings out something different in him. I’m willing to give it a chance based on the strength of the cast alone. The screenwriter is Jin Seung Hee. The production companies are Studio S, Beyond J, and Slingshot Studio.

What I’m Excited About

Ahn Hyo Seop back on the small screen. It’s been a while since Business Proposal and I’ve missed him in a rom-com. A prickly farmer with a soft heart? That’s the kind of character he’ll make absolutely loveable.

Chae Won Bin’s comedy debut. I’ve seen her do intense drama. Now I want to see her do the bulldozer home shopping host who doesn’t take no for an answer. If she can do both? She’s going to be a star.

The countryside setting. Most K-drama rom-coms are set in Seoul offices. This one is set in a farming village with green fields, mushroom farms, and village elders offering potatoes. That’s refreshing. That’s healing content.

The bickering-to-romance pipeline. City girl vs country boy. She’s in heels, he’s on a tractor. She wants a business deal, he wants her to go away. We all know where this is going and I’m here for every single argument on the way there.

Netflix same-day streaming. No waiting. New episodes every Wednesday and Thursday right there on Netflix.

12 episodes. Tight. Clean. No filler. Just mushrooms and feelings.
